Affiliate Programs

Affiliate Program Hit And Miss List

You know, I have to laugh every time somebody asks me what a good affiliate program to join is. Then, on top of that, they want me to give them a list. What, you need more than one? Okay, maybe you do if you plan on doing a lot of affiliate marketing. But the truth is, good and bad is a relative term indeed. It's really more what you do with it. However, if you're looking for affiliate programs that I really think are the cream of the crop, hopefully, this article will give you a place to start. I'll also include a couple I recommend staying away from.

Probably the top affiliate program, which is really more an affiliate network, is Clickbank. Clickbank is probably the affiliate's choice all over. This is not to say that they don't have their problems, because they do. Every program has problems as perfection hasn't been perfected yet. But Clickbank is a very well run company, they have great products, some which pay very high commission percentages and they send you your checks like clockwork on the 1st and 15th of every month. Just about every affiliate marketer I know uses Clickbank.

But Clickbank isn't the only game in town as far as affiliate programs and networks. Another very good affiliate network is Amazon. Now I know there are going to be people reading this who are familiar with Amazon who will say that I am crazy because Amazon only pays out 4% commission to start. That may be true, but Amazon has many advantages over other networks. They probably sell the biggest range of products of anyone, some of which are very high end products. So that 4% commission can translate into a good income. Also, because Amazon has such a great reputation among buyers, it is very easy to sell products through them.

Okay, I'm going to give you a couple of affiliate networks that I personally would stay away from, not because they are bad, but because there are things about them that I just don't like. The first one, as popular as it is, is PayDotCom. Believe me, there is a lot of good to this program, but the thing I don't like about it is that the payments come from the individual merchants and not from PayDotCom directly. Unfortunately, some merchants just don't pay. Eventually, PayDotCom throws them out of the network, but not until after you've made sales that you never got paid for. I don't know about you but that kind of hit and miss isn't for me.

Another affiliate network that I would stay away from is Sharesale. Again, there is a lot about them that is very good, but they have a relatively high minimum payout and a lot of their products, quite honestly, are expensive and not worth what they cost. Plus, you have to get approved through each individual merchant, which can be a real hassle, if you want to sell a number of products.

This list doesn't even begin to scratch the surface, but should give you a starting point in picking an affiliate network or program to get started with.

Affiliate Marketing Tips

Everybody has their own two cents on the subject of affiliate marketing. But you know what they say about opinions. Everybody has one. Well, I'm going to be sharing some of my opinions on affiliate marketing along with a few tips. These are based on over 4 years of experience. So I think I might have some idea of what I am talking about. Hopefully, after you read this article, you will come away with a few things that will improve the results that you're getting with affiliate marketing. If not, you're welcome to write to me and tell me to keep my opinions to myself.

Affiliate marketing, which is essentially the selling of other people's products and services, is not rocket science. People love to make it out to be so difficult, especially when they are not having any success with it. But the whole thing comes down to finding a need for a product or service and then finding the product or service that fulfills that need. No, it's not more complicated than that. People just make it complicated by not doing the simple basics. What are those basics?

For starters, find out what people want. There are so many problems in the world that need a solution. Internet marketers especially want a solution. Find out what they want and then find the solution.

How do you find what they want? That's easy. Many marketers hang out in forums. They do this because when they do have a problem they have this constant need to tell others about their problem. As this process continues, other marketers chime in with their own problems in regard to the topic. Maybe it's an autoresponder service. Maybe it's using your own script for your list. It doesn't matter. There are tons of problems that you will run into at any forum. Health forums are fantastic for finding problems. Everyday, people tell about their ailments and ask if there are any natural treatments for them because they hate taking drugs. Guess what? There are plenty of natural products online for a number of problems. All you have to do is search them out and see if any of them have affiliate programs. Then go hang out in the forums so more and post your affiliate link in your signature. After a while, if you contribute to the forum, the sales will come.

Here's another tip that will make things a lot easier for you. Don't try breaking into niches that are flooded with affiliates. If you're new, with no list, you're going to be banging your head into a brick wall. Start out with a niche that doesn't have a lot of competition but does have a need and several solutions. They're out there. You just have to open your eyes and look. Go to search engines, forums, message boards or wherever you have to go in order to find the solutions.

Like I said, affiliate marketing is not rocket science. If you take things one step at a time and go about the process methodically, there is no reason why you can't turn affiliate marketing into a successful business.
